How to… check if your Facebook ad will be approved

Facebook ads are great, we love them, you love them. However, anyone who has created one knows that getting them rejected for having too much text is a pain in the neck.

The rule of thumb provided by Facebook is the text to image ration should not exceed 20%.

Text in your advert image includes text laid over a photo or illustration, text-based logos or watermarks used in an advert image. It also includes text in thumbnail images that are used for videos, as well as images used as cover photos or Profile photos of promoted Pages.

Lately it has been providing “Image text ratings” so although an advert may “show” it may reach fewer people and cost more, just to confuse matters more.

Most of us just continue making the text area smaller until it gets approved; very irritating.

Here’s a handy online tool from Facebook called a “Text Overlay Tool” which allows you to upload your ad and see if it will pass: https://www.facebook.com/ads/tools/text_overlay

You’re welcome.
