Google confirms release of Penguin 3.0
Google confirmed the release of Penguin 3.0 on Friday – the first Penguin update in over a year. Penguin targets sites deemed to be spammy, especially those found in violation of Google’s guidelines about linking. Many are hoping the long-awaited update will have big effect on websites which have cleaned up their spammy backlinks but have not been ‘rewarded’ for their efforts. Similarly, those sites with questionable linking practices which managed to escape the previous Penguin updates unscathed may find themselves caught up and banished by this one… (also know as ‘beyond page 3’ of the Google’s search results).
Google employee Pierre Farr has said the following:
“On Friday last week, we started rolling out a Penguin refresh affecting fewer than 1% of queries in US English search results. This refresh helps sites that have already cleaned up the webspam signals discovered in the previous Penguin iteration, and demotes sites with newly-discovered spam.
It’s a slow worldwide rollout, so you may notice it settling down over the next few weeks. ”

Penguin 1.1 on May 26, 2012 (impacting less than 0.1%)
Penguin 1.2 on October 5, 2012 (impacting ~0.3% of queries)
Penguin 2.0 on May 22, 2013 (impacting 2.3% of queries)
Penguin 2.1 on Oct. 4, 2013 (impacting around 1% of queries)
Penguin 3.0 on October 17, 2014 (impact not yet released
